Bilingual Daycare
Bilingual Daycare in Helsinki
English / Finnish
At our daycare, children learn both Finnish and English naturally through everyday activities such as play, songs, and conversations. Our main language is English, spoken daily, while Finnish is supported alongside by our Finnish-speaking teachers. Children are encouraged to learn at their own pace, and we always take each family’s wishes and goals into account – no prior language skills are required.
Learning a new language enriches a child’s ability to communicate, supports emotional development and cultural understanding, and builds a strong foundation for future learning.
Language Learning Strengthens Growth
Learning a new language enriches a child’s ability to express themselves and opens doors to diverse interactions. In an increasingly international world, language skills are becoming an essential part of life. A language learned in early childhood lays a strong foundation for future learning.
Language proficiency deepens cultural understanding, supports emotional development, and strengthens a child’s social growth.
Teaching in English and Finnish
At our daycare, language learning happens naturally throughout the day. During free play, children can choose the language they want to use – often we hear Finnish among the children, but English is quickly picked up through everyday activities. Language development is supported by consistent routines, a clear daily rhythm, and structured teaching moments. We also use songs during transitions to help children understand the flow of the day and support new language acquisition.
Our interaction is joyful, encouraging, and genuinely attentive. We meet children at their level, show interest in their thoughts, and lead by example through respectful and kind language.
We deepen Finnish language skills through play, music, movement, and conversation. Children naturally learn to distinguish between English- and Finnish-language sessions and switch between them with ease. Each language has its own familiar routines that create a sense of safety and structure.
